Santa Cruzin’
βThe Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot sayβ
-J.R.R. Tolkien
Santa Cruz: home of the modern wetsuit and the oldest amusement park in the country, frequently appearing in Tarantino flicks (if only Vincent Vega wore the Santa Cruz shirt while spouting out the $5 milkshake) and in Beach Boys’ and Doobie Brothers’ songs, to name a couple.
A few days ago, before my trip to the beach, I got snowed in back east in Virginia. My glove-less hands were so cold that I shed tears claiming to have been frostbitten (guilty: I don’t know what that actually means).
I went to VA,
Little did I know,
A stay with my beau
Would last a whole week
Due to snow to speak
Grab layers on fleek, or freeze like a treat.
The only good thing about cold temps is the chance of snow. No snow, no fun, so bring on the sledding and trudging!
After a week in the cold, I flew back to the gold, reaping the warmth that is California. I rode my yellow bike, worked out with a friend, went out for drinks, and perused a candy shop. Then I hit Santa Cruz with a big group of Charlottesville, Virginia friends.
I love that I left home only to find it allΒ out here.
It’s about the people, that’s for sure.
The saying is true: wherever you go, there you are.
Eleutheromania: (n.) an intense and irresistible desire for freedom.
A crafty crew does it up in Santa Cruz…

You can take the girl out of VA, but you can’t take the Virginia ties outa’ the girl. You can certainly leave the cold weather behind. π
