Sneaking into Healthy
What do you picture when you hear the word healthy?
Green? Fruits and veggies? Bland food? Annoyingly fit people?
What if I told you healthy food could be full of flavor?
“The food you eat either makes you more healthy or less healthy. Those are your options.”
-Melissa Hartwig
Try this juxtaposition on for size: nutritious comfort food.
I’ll be the first to confess that these foods don’t coat the taste buds quite like fried food, but the things that provide immediate satiation don’t always have lasting rewards.
On one side you’ve got desserts, alcohol, promiscuity, and mind altering substances. Compare those things to nutritious foods, the gym, long-lasting relationships, and mindfulness.
Instant dopamine releases versus benefit reaping meshed in patience.
(One of the best parts about aging is the essence of time. Things go by faster so patience becomes more concrete.)
We can’t control everything in life, but we can control what we put in our bodies.
According to Women’s Health, “frequent consumption of sugary, fatty, or salty foods both hooks and dulls your taste buds; eventually, you’ll need to shovel in more to score the same level of satisfaction. Luckily, the opposite is also true: The less of a food you eat, the less of it you need to score a rush, says David Katz, M.D., a nutrition expert at the Yale School of Medicine.”
Whether you slowly wean off of or go cold turkey from falsified foods is a personal choice. The key is bringing your taste buds back to a more natural path. We weren’t meant to consume foods like Big Macs and cheesy tacos. Once you stop eating that stuff, you eventually stop craving it and your palate becomes more receptive to organic flavors.
I saw a meme that said, What if I told you eating healthy is actually eating normally.
Don’t be afraid to start over. It’s a brand new opportunity to rebuild what you truly want.
Nothing brings people together like good food.
Extra credit when it’s nutrient-rich, high quality food.
Epicure: a person who takes particular pleasure in fine food and drink.
The foods we eat impact our wellbeing, not just on a cellular level, but on a whole life level-how we feel, how much energy we have, how strong we are, how capable we can be.
Every 35 days your skin replaces itself. Your liver, about a month. Your body makes these new cells from the food you eat. What you eat literally becomes you. You have a choice in what you’re made of. Eat Wisely.
Today is a new day- a fresh Start.
I got so into motivating you that I forgot to explain the setting of these photos. I wrote a menu for the culinary team at Facebook for over 1,000 of my co-workers.
My goal was to inspire a healthy change, so I created comfort food that’s rich in nutrients.
As some of you may remember, I used to get down in the kitchen. It was fun returning to my roots.
Love yourself enough to live a healthy lifestyle.
Small progress is still progress.
Eat Right. Feel Amazing.
If you tried my menu, what was your favorite dish? If you didn’t try it, what dish interests you the most?
