Half Dome or Half Done?

Just believe in yourself. Even if you don’t, pretend that you do, and eventually you will.

This funny thing happens as we start getting closer to a goal.

Say your goal is to become more fit. You make a conscious decision to succeed through strategic discoveries. You lust for progress. Hours of mindful envisioning and mental convincing births changed improvements. You attract the positive. Deplete the negative. Thoughts are corrected as what you think, you become.

Without noticing, your focus shifts toward the distance between where you are and where you want to be. You lose sight of how far you’ve come. New norms are created. Forgotten takes a front seat.

But don’t let it.

While the new memories are expected, don’t forget each milestone. Feel the moment, even if it’s just for a second.

No matter if the glass is half empty or half full, be grateful that you have that glass

As I sit here thinking about norms, I bask in the accomplishment of last weekend’s hike. You guys, I did it!

I hiked Half Dome. <toot toot!>

Ok, let me back up a sec for my east coast crew, who like me, might not know about this hike. (When I agreed the trek, I had no idea I’d be dangling off a giant mountain to make it to the top. So cool!)

It’s one of the most difficult hikes in Yosemite chilling at about 5,000 feet above the valley and 8800 feet above sea level.

It took 10 hours to complete the 18-mile adventure and it was awesome.

Advice from Yosemite:
Expand your horizons.
Reach new heights
Keep a sense of wonder
Be an inspiration
Cherish wilderness
See beauty all around you
Enjoy life’s peaks and valleys

It’s easy to forget how far we had trekked with the lingering top in constant teasing sight. Though it’s easy to do, don’t let yourself forget the point at which you started, because that’s progress my friend.

So what’s my point again? Oh yes,
no matter your latitude on your hike of life,
If you doubt your boots
don’t forget your roots.
