Learning Magic: A Glimpse

“Nothing is impossible, the word itself says I’m possible.”

What happens when you have trouble identifying the problem?

The issue at hand is clear but the fixing solution is fuzzy. You’re not only invested, you’re completely covered and enveloped in the problem.

There are always options even when we don’t necessarily see them, like breathing techniques, mindful thinking, getting outside, talking it out…

“When you start taking care of yourself, you start feeling better, you start looking better and you even start to attract better. It all starts with you.”

So many thoughts. So many activities.

“I am always doing what I cannot do yet in order to learn how to do it.
-Vincent Van Gogh

When trying to accomplish a task, use your inner powers to get there.

I just finished reading Into the Magic Shop: A Neurosurgeon’s Quest to Discover the Mysteries of the Brain and the Secrets of the Heart and I have to leave you with some of my favorite pieces.

Quite mind blowing.

“By visualizing my own future success, I was making this success familiar to my brain. Intention is a funny thing, and whatever the brain puts its intention on is what it sees. Have you every thought about buying a certain type of car and then it was as if you were suddenly seeing that exact type of car everywhere you went? Was it your intention that made the car magically appear or was it your brain’s focused attention that allowed you to finally see what was in front of you all the time? “You get what you expect” can be a simple idea delegated to a New Age, feel-good thought or a powerful example of neuroscience and brain plasticity. Attention is a powerful thing- it can literally change our brains, creating more grey matter in the very areas that help us learn, perform, and make grey matters in the very areas that help us learn, perform, and make our dreams come true.”

“I practiced my mantra at home. Sometimes for hours at a time. For reasons that I understand now, it was amazingly calming. Repetition. Intention. The surest way to change your brain. By combining the breathing technique that Ruth had taught me with either looking at the flame of a candle or slowly repeating my mantra, things began to change.”
-James R. Doty

“Energy can be neither created nor destroyed. However energy can change forms, and energy can flow from one place to another. That is the gift we are each given. The energy of the universe is within us. It is the stardust that makes up each of us. All that power of creation. All that power of expansion. All that beautiful, simple, synchronized power. Energy can flow from one place to another.”
-James R. Doty

“The only choice we have is in how we respond in each precious moment we are given.”

“Sometimes rules and criteria are critically important, but often times they are arbitrary and act only to sift through numbers and limit opportunity.”

“…who we are today doesn’t have to be who we are tomorrow.”

Each of us in our lives experiences situations that cause pain
I call them wounds of the heart.
If you ignore them, they won’t heal
But sometimes when our hearts are wounded that’s when they are open.
Frequently it is the wounds of the heart that give us the greatest opportunity to grow.
Difficult situations
Magic gift.

“Both our thoughts and our feelings can be powerful, but a strong emotion can silence a thought, while we can rarely think ourselves out of a strong emotion.”

Let’s treat mental and physical health equally.

“But when I truly open my hear as Ruth taught me, it actually changes how I respond to the pain. I did not need to run from it; I needed to be with it. And it was the being with it that allowed me to connect with myself and truly connect with others.”

“When our brains and our hearts are working in collaboration – we are happier, we are healthier, and we automatically express love, kindness, and care for one another.”

Cheers to new beginnings, more mantras, blissful breathing, insightful intentions, thorough thoughts, and much more.

According to James, the strategy goes a little something like this:

  1. Lie down and relax each body part starting from the toes all the way to the head
  2. Clear the mind using a mantra if prefered
  3. Reflect on loving someone and someone loving you
  4. Picture yourself achieving a specific goal. Go into as many details as possible
  5. ~*~Magic happens~*~

Close your eyes, relax the body, pick a mantra to repeat, open your heart and envision your next goal. YOU got this. 🙂
